Get Fit: Week 3 (Day 23)
Hello internet and future self. I'm a little late on this update. Several events have passed that have tested me and my eating habits.
- May 21 - It's my parent's anniversary date and I had my relatives visiting from out of town. We ate at a Korean BBQ place called Wang Cho which featured unlimited meat. To mitigate the amount of calories I took in, I tried eating many of the sides and the bedding of leafy greens that accompany the meat. Furthermore, I went to 7 Leaves and got a vietnamese coffee, which was rich in caffeine and sugar. I mitigated the amount of calories from the drink by only consuming a third of the cup and giving the rest of the treat to my Dad. I was not able to hit the gym due to time constraints.
- May 22 - I had dinner with my relatives from out of town with my aunt who lives in Glendale. She cooked a variety of foods including pizza, pasta with spaghetti, and chicken. I stuck mostly to the chicken and the shrimp from the pasta. My aunt insisted on leftovers, which I consumed over the weekend (slowly).
- May 23 - Dodgers game with friends featuring all you can eat food at the pavilion. I only got food one time, which was composed of a hot dog, popcorn, cheese nachos, soda, and peanuts. I also had a churro and tried to remove sugar from the treat to minimize my intake. *Note to self: this was the one time I made every attempt to hit the gym but couldn't due to time constraints.
- May 30 - Peter Lee's retirement lunch which was held at M Grill. This was a brazilian restaurant featuring all you can eat BBQ food including steak, chicken, ribs, and sausages. I had one of each type of meat and had refills on chicken if I was still hungry. I also ate many of the complimentary sides that come with the meal.
The thing I am most proud about is that I would try to hit the gym either the day of or the day after the event. In most cases, I would make it an extra strenuous workout to recover some of the additional calories I consumed from the events. It's important that I remind myself of the food choices I need to consider or stay away from whenever I participate in these events. Other than two days, I've been able to hit the gym pretty consistently. My gym has an incentive for logging the first 100 workouts. I've logged around 20+ workouts so far. There is a little soreness in my calves (probably from this one program on the lateral machine called MMA). Changing up my routine prevents me from getting bored and makes fitness fun. As of this writing, I'm currently at 243.9 pounds. It's pretty big difference than when I first started around 260 pounds. If I continue my current trajectory, I should be at 230 pounds in no time. I just have to put in the hard work, trust the process, and remind myself the reasons for continuing the effort.
