Get Fit: Week 13
Hello internet and future self.
This is technically a late post. I've been so preoccupied lately that I wasn't able to track this post for Week 13. However, I have reviewed my entries in MyFitnessPal and am starting to remember what happened for this week.
Monday was a good day. I wasn't so mindful about my eating the past week and Monday was a nice way to detox my body and get back into the rhythm of things with my diet.
But then Tuesday came around and I started to become a little less mindful. I met up with Jessie out in Pasadena to have dinner at Osawa, a pretty high-end sushi place that had some great offerings. I ended up getting the Omakase which is a variety of sushi and sashimi (12 pieces) served on a platter. It also came with a mini japanese salad and miso soup. I did farely well, but then headed to Cafe86 for desserts and to talk more with Jessie. I ended up getting a cold brew that was filled with cream and sugar (probably not my best moment) as well as something called a "churrochi" which is basically a churro made with mochi. Again, not my best moments. I was prepared for the day though. I ended up working out early in the morning around 4:30AM. It wasn't a full workout, but it was enough to try to negate the upcoming food for the day.
Wednesday, I ate with my coworker Jay at the Omni hotel for lunch. It was buffet style with Caribbean-themed food. I ate a serving of chicken and salmon while being mindful about the carbs I ate. Where I messed up was the desserts. I got a raspberry chocolate mousse (which was amazing) and custard cake to complement my coffee. I did work it out at the end of the day, spending time at the gym for almost two hours doing plyometrics.
Thursday, I was lazy (probably due to the heat) and ate at Ocho in the cafeteria. The food was fairly salty, which is not typical of the establishment. I had to drown myself in water to make up for the saltiness. Where I messed up was after hours. My buddy, Eddie, recently got engaged to his long term girlfriend and we decided to celebrate at Spitz for happy hour. I let myself go, eating way too much food, drinks, and alcohol. There were some redeeming personal moments though. Towards the end of the night, I was giving my speech about how working out has changed how I look at myself and my confidence levels. It was nice to be unfiltered, mentioning things like sex, crazy moments in life, and the assorted "taboo" topics that most people would not talk about. I definitely bonded much closer to Eddie and Kevin that night. Speaking of, I'll be the best man at Eddie's wedding. Got to work on a speech that will make him and Stacelyn cry.
Friday, I made plans to eat with my dad. Originally, we were going to eat at my dad's downstairs cafeteria which offered healthy alternatives. Instead, my Dad wanted to go explore the LA Mall which was across the street. We stumbled upon Sbarro, which is known for their chain of Italian fast food across food courts. I knew nothing there would be healthy. So I chose the healthiest option they had which was roasted chicken with veggies. It wasn't very good and I'm pretty it wasn't healthy either. Due to all the drinking the night before, I had to go to the bathroom pretty bad and ended up hanging out at my dad's office. Good thing I didn't do anything after that, for dinner. I proceeded with working out and having my almond drink to finish the day.
Saturday, I had my full workout at the gym and then proceeded to have a Poke Bowl at the California Poke House near Brand. I invited Alex to join me from work. We went to IKEA after where I treated myself to a latte and a vanilla ice cream cone. We also built out a laptop desk that would replace my piano keyboard in my room. It turned out to be really nice, although I need to swap out some video adapters to make it work with my Surface laptop.
Prior to leaving for the SHARE event on Sunday, I weighed myself. I am currently under 220 pounds, an amazing feat and accomplishment for myself. I'll write my experiences with food and exercise in my next post for Week 14. It's been a crazy journey, but I'm glad that I have made it to the halfway point. Cheers to me!
Always remember to trust the process, be consistent, and believe in yourself. Here's to losing another 40 pounds!
