Get Fit: Week 10
Hello internet and future self. It still ceases to amaze me how many people are taking notice regarding my weight loss. It is such a confidence boost and helps put fuel to my motivation. I learned several things this week. During my San Francisco trip, I didn't have the best diet while I was there. I ate a lot of food, drank lots of beer/alcohol, and didn't put any work into the gym during my travels. I was still trying to be mindful about what I ate: acai bowl from Costco, small portions of fish and chips, and drinking lots of water. When I came back to Los Angeles and finally got settled, the first thing I did was hit the gym. Thinking about all the food and drinks I consumed was good motivation for getting extra sets and spending extra time at the gym. I ended up working a two hour cardio-focused workout (and it felt good). I weighed myself the next day, and guest what... no changes since my last weigh in; I was relieved. Since the trip, I've been focusing on eating clean food such as grilled chicken and fish based meals. It was nice to get back to my normal routine of things. I did notice that I had a slight headache after pushing myself on Monday, but it has since went away as of this writing. I've been very disciplined when it comes to making my gym a normal routine. Today, I received news that we would be attending dinner with some out of town relatives. I knew that I would not have time to go to the gym by the time I was back in Diamond Bar. I ended up setting an alarm clock for 3:30AM in the morning and getting 1.5 hour workout before heading to work. It was nice to see such an empty gym with plenty of availability on all the equipment. This week, I bought a Fitbit Versa to supplement my fitness tracking. The Charge 2 I was previously using has been very trusty, but it was starting to show its age and I wanted more features out of a wearable. I previously bought a Versa, but there were too many bugs for me to use it in daily use. Those bugs have since been squashed and the Versa has been working perfectly with my Pixel XL 2 phone. I really like all the new features they put into the device. The color screen is a plus and it reminds me a lot of my original Pebble watch. Other cool features like NFC pay and apps give the watch additional bang for my buck. Most importantly, its water resistant, which means that I don't have to take it off when I want to shower or swim with it. There are plenty of events that are coming up that can thwart my progress. Here's a few:
- July 17, 2018 - eating at Makino with out of town family. It's a Japanese buffet with decent selection of food and quality of meat. I'm going to try and stick with the healthier options and then work it all off the next day.
- July 21, 2018 - David Ayvazian's birthday celebration at a placed called The Local Peasant. It looks like a gastropub joint. I'll most likely consume one or two alcoholic drinks and have food here. I'll try to stick with healthier options on the food.
- July 13-27, 2018 - DineLA week which means prix fixe food from a variety of participating restaurants in L.A. This will most likely generate hangout events with friends/coworkers. I'll have to anticipate and see what kind of food I can choose to stay within my diet.
I'm more motivated than ever to continue my fitness journey, especially with people noticing. It makes me scared to go back to my old ways. I can't wait to get faster, stronger, and do workouts with more intensities and with different movements. I've trusted the process this far and it only goes up from here.
